Choose a useful challenge

Easy is a sensible starting point when you are learning legal moves and how pieces interact. Medium offers a more demanding opponent for players who already notice simple threats. Hard searches more deeply and is intended for a tougher casual game. These labels describe this browser engine, not a certified Elo strength.

When to change levels

Stay on the same level for several games so you can notice patterns in your decisions. If you are losing because you leave pieces undefended, practice that skill on Easy. If you can regularly keep your pieces safe and recognize checkmate threats, try Medium. Return to an easier setting whenever you want to explore an unfamiliar opening.

White, Black or random

White lets you make the first move and choose an initial setup. Black gives you practice responding to a plan. Random alternates your experience without requiring a choice each time. Playing both sides helps you see that an opening is a conversation between two players, rather than a sequence you can follow regardless of the reply.

Use a slow review

Before using Undo, try to explain why the previous move failed. Was a square defended? Did a capture expose your king? Could your opponent give check with tempo? Then undo and test a different legal move. Thinking time and device performance can vary, especially on older phones.
